Stamina

WoC uses Stamina rather than the default Hit Points. It is an abstraction for exhaustion and the ability to ignore minor cuts and bruises. Stamina is based on the constitution score and the level of excersise from one's profession. One could say that a character is not actually "hit" until he reaches 0 stamina, rather, you expend Stamina in order not to get hit badly.

Starting Stamina

A level one character has a Stamina equal to his constitution score + a set number depending on his class HD (hit dice) . The additional Stamina gained at level one is:

  • HD 4: = 1 Stamina
  • HD 6: = 2 Stamina
  • HD 8: = 3 Stamina
  • HD 10: = 4 Stamina
  • HD 12: = 5 Stamina

The table below details the Stamina at level 1, compared with the HD to the Constitution score. The additional Stamina gained through the Toughness Feat are added to the score.

Level Up Stamina

A fixed number of Stamina is gained with a new level. The Constitution modifier is added/deducted from them. The Stamina gained with a new level are as follows:

  • HD 4: = 3 Stamina
  • HD 6: = 4 Stamina
  • HD 8: = 5 Stamina
  • HD 10: = 6 Stamina
  • HD 12: = 7 Stamina

The table below details the Stamina gained with a new level, compared with the HD to the Constitution score. The additional Stamina gained through the Toughness Feat are added to the score.

Recovering Stamina

Stamina recovers on its own outside of combat at a rate determined by the character's Constitution modifier. It can also be replenished in combat through using the Adrenaline Rush feat that is available to every character, and has a limited number of uses determined by the Constitution score and Wisdom modifier.

Reaching Zero Stamina

Once a character reaches zero Stamina, he is exhausted and wounded as a result. He is then knocked out with a wound and will need the help of an ally in order to get back up again. When getting back up from being wounded, Stamina can not be fully recovered - the character is in too bad shape and needs to either rest, be taken care of by a skilled healer or gain a divine blessing in the shape of a sufficiently powerful healing spell.

If a character isn't helped in any way, he continues to bleed to an amount of negative Stamina equal to his Constitution score. Unless he stabilizes during that time, or gets help, the character risks dying.

If a character goes down below zero Stamina, he counts as dying and loses 1 Stanina for every round unless getting help as described above. There is however a small chance of becoming Stable, which slows down the bleeding process, and can at times even make the character recover. Death occurs at -CON Stamina (e.g. -16 for 16 CON) rather than -10 HP.
